Choose Your Own Adventure: Transforming Administration

March 31, 2016

Being a school administrator, you get a chance to experience new adventures everyday.  Sometimes these adventures lead to good outcomes, sometimes not as good and many times there are no good options.

But what if there were options we never even considered?

And what if you could go back and start the conversation over from the beginning and do it differently?

Simulations enable more interesting possibilities – you can walk through inherently difficult situations and see ALL the options, even come up with additional options.  And then go through them all again.

But what’s really going on with simulations?  Simulations are actual events and experiences that happened in other school districts.  The art is choosing from the choices you are given.  There are situations where there are no good answers, but decisions still have to be made.  But it’s not just making your next choice or your next part of the adventure – it’s actually talking through your choices with other administrators or seeing how your choices affect future occurrences.

In this podcast, the host, Jethro Jones, walked through a simulation with Ken and a group of principals and experienced first hand that practice can lead to more than just new learning – it can transform your overall thinking and approach to solving problems:
